But what does FSC really mean and more importantly what’s the process involved in being able to put that green (non-rubber) stamp on your printed communications?

 

FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council, a group that works to ensure that the materials used are sourced responsibly.  Each step in the chain (i.e. from forest to printer) must be traceable.

 

The intent of the FSC system is to eliminate the destruction of our habitat, water pollution, displacement of native people and violence against people and wildlife that can accompany logging.  Organisations like to align themselves with FSC to empower their green credentials for both environmental and marketing benefits. Increasingly, as do consumers.  And quite rightly so.

 

How does it work?
The FSC system includes a certified chain of custody that tracks the timber through every stage in the supply chain from the forest to the final user. This is monitored through the invoicing process and the final label on the product has a code that confirms that the item is genuinely FSC.
There are three types of FSC Label that can be issued to certified users and each would have a unique licence number – FSC 100%, FSC recycled and FSC Mix.
